On Mac OS, in all cases use the standard compiler invocation, just being sure to include the –g option.
 
f77 –g program.f
f77 –g program.for
f90 –g program.f90
gcc –g program.c
g++ –g program.cxx
g77 –g program.f
xlc –g program.c
xlC –g program.cxx
xlf –g program.f
xlf90 –g program.f90
On Mac OS X 10.4, you can create 64-bit applications using GCC 4 by adding the m64 command-line option.
