RLM license renewal

Use this procedure to renew an existing Reprise License Manager (RLM) license for TotalView products.

Before you update the license file, verify that your existing license file is an RLM license. Using the wrong license type can prevent TotalView from starting or connecting to the license server.

Prerequisites

  • You have received a new RLM license file by email from Perforce.

  • You have access to the system where the current license.lic file is installed.

  • You have permission to modify license files and restart or reread the license manager.

Verify the license is an RLM license

Before updating your license, verify that the existing license is an RLM license file by running the toolworks_licensetype utility:

  • Linux/Unix

    <installdir>/toolworks/totalview.<version>/bin/toolworks_licensetype <licensefile>

  • macOS:

    /Applications/Perforce/totalview.<version>/TotalView.app/Contents/bin/toolworks_licensetype <licensefile>

The utility should report the following: 

Reprise (RLM) TotalView <product> license detected

If an RLM license is not reported, contact license@perforce.com for the proper license.

Renew a TotalView Developer for HPC or TotalView Student RLM license

Use this procedure when are renewing an RLM license for one of the following TotalView products: 

  • TotalView Developer for HPC

  • TotalView Student

Renewal consists of replacing the existing file with the updated license file you received.

For native Python debugging enablement during the rollout period, you might receive a replacement license file even if your current license is otherwise valid. Replace the existing license.lic with the new file provided by Perforce.

To replace the license file:

  1. Verify that the existing license file is an RLM license. See Verify the license is an RLM license.

  2. Locate the existing license.lic file on your system. See Install a new TotalView Developer for HPC or TotalView Student license for details on how the license file may have been originally installed.

  3. Copy the new license.lic file to the same directory.

  4. Allow the new file to overwrite the existing file.

Renew a TotalView for HPC RLM license

Renewing a TotalView for HPC RLM license requires updating relevant license entries and reloading the license manager.

For native Python debugging enablement during the rollout period, existing customers might receive an additional source file named license_python.src. Copy it to <installdir>/toolworks/repriselm-<version>, run Configure_License, and then reload the license manager.

To update license entries and reload the license file:

  1. (Optional) Back up your existing license.lic file.

  2. Open license.lic in a text editor.

  3. Locate the LICENSE lines for the TotalView feature you're renewing.

  4. Replace only those LICENSE lines with the updated license keys you received.

    • The file can contain multiple licenses, with each individual license starting with the word LICENSE. Do not change unrelated entries.

  5. Save the file.

  6. Reload the license file by running: 

    <installdir>/toolworks/repriselm-<version>/bin/toolworks_rlmreread

If you have older, invalid license keys, remove them from your system to ensure compliance with the Perforce Permanent License Agreement.
